The statement concerning the explanation of the saying of the Exalted: وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ("And indeed, Ilyās was among the messengers") (37:123).
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: And indeed, Ilyās — and he is Ilyās, the son of Yāsīn, the son of Finḥāṣ, the son of al-ʿAyzār, the son of Hārūn, the son of ʿImrān — according to what Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq.
And it has been said: he is Idrīs. Bishr related that to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, he said: It used to be said: Ilyās is Idrīs. And we have already mentioned that in what preceded.
And His saying: لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ("was among the messengers"), the Exalted, whose praise is mighty, says: a messenger from among the messengers.
