And His statement ( رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ) — "My Lord, grant me of the righteous" — this is Ibrāhīm's request to his Lord to grant him a righteous child. He says: he said: O my Lord, grant me from Yourself a child who is among the righteous, who obey You and do not disobey You, and who promote welfare upon the earth and do not sow corruption.
As Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His statement ( رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ), he said: a righteous child.
And He said "of the righteous" and did not say "a righteous one of the righteous," contenting Himself with mentioning min ("of") as a reference to the omitted word, just as the Exalted and Almighty has said: وَكَانُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِينَ — ("And they were, concerning him, among those who were indifferent"), with the meaning: indifferent ones among the indifferent.
