Tafseer of Yaseen · Yaseen · 36:74

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةًۭ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

But they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped.

    His statement وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً ("And they have taken gods besides Allah") means: and these polytheists (mushrikīn) have taken, besides Allah, gods whom they worship. لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ ("that they might be helped") means: in the desire that those gods would guard them against the punishment of Allah and His torment (ʿadhāb).

    قوله ( وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً ) يقول: واتخذ هؤلاء المشركون من دون الله آلهة يعبدونها( لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ ) يقول: طمعا أن تنصرهم تلك الآلهة من عقاب الله وعذابه.
