And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat.

And His statement وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا لَهُمْ ("And We have subjected them for them") means: and We have made this livestock obedient and serviceable for them. فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ ("so that some of them are their mounts") means: and some of them are that upon which they ride, such as the camels upon which they travel. One says: "this is a mount (dābba rakūb)." The word al-rukūb, with the ḍamma (al-rukūb), is the act itself. وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ ("and some of them they eat") — its flesh.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the interpreters of the Qurʾān have spoken.

Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ ("And We have subjected them for them, so that some of them are their mounts"): they ride upon them and travel upon them. وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ ("and some of them they eat") — its flesh.
