And His statement وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا لَهُمْ ("And We have subjected them for them") means: and We have made this livestock obedient and serviceable for them. فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ ("so that some of them are their mounts") means: and some of them are that upon which they ride, such as the camels upon which they travel. One says: "this is a mount (dābba rakūb)." The word al-rukūb, with the ḍamma (al-rukūb), is the act itself. وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ ("and some of them they eat") — its flesh.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the interpreters of the Qurʾān have spoken.

    * Mention of who said that:

Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ ("And We have subjected them for them, so that some of them are their mounts"): they ride upon them and travel upon them. وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ ("and some of them they eat") — its flesh.
