And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?

The explanation of His statement, the Exalted: وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلا كَثِيرًا أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْقِلُونَ (And he has certainly led astray many of you, a great multitude. Did you then not use your reason?) (62).
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, means by His statement وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلا كَثِيرًا (And he has certainly led astray many of you, a great multitude): and Satan has certainly turned away a great number of creatures from among you from My obedience and from singling Me out alone with divinity, until they worshipped him and took beside Me gods whom they worshipped.
As Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلا (And he has certainly led astray jibilan from among you): he said: creatures.
The Qurʾān reciters differed concerning the reading of it. Most of the reciters of Medina and some of those of Kūfa read it جِبِلا with a kasra on the jīm and a shadda on the lām. Some of the Meccans and most of the reciters of Kūfa read it جُبُلا with a ḍamma on the jīm and the bāʾ and a light (non-shaddad) lām. Some of the reciters of Basra read it جُبْلا with a ḍamma on the jīm and a sukūn on the bāʾ. All of these are well-known dialects, except that I prefer the reading of it only according to one of the two readings, one of which is with a kasra on the jīm and a shadda on the lām, and the other with a ḍamma on the jīm and the bāʾ and a light lām, because that is the reading upon which most of the reciters of the cities are agreed.
And His statement أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْقِلُونَ (Did you then not use your reason?). He says: did you then not use your reason, O polytheists (mushrikīn), when you obeyed Satan in worshipping other than Allah, that it does not befit you to obey your enemy and the enemy of Allah and to worship other than Allah?
