On a straight path.

His statement ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm (upon a straight path) means: upon a way in which there is no crookedness of guidance (al-hudā), and that is Islam.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm (upon a straight path), that is to say: upon Islam.
In His statement ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm (upon a straight path) there are two possible meanings. The first is that the meaning is: verily, you are among those who have been sent on the basis of steadfastness in the truth; in that case the word "ʿalā" (upon) in His statement ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm (upon a straight path) belongs to the verb "to send." The other possibility is that it constitutes a new, independent statement, as if it were said: verily, you are among those who have been sent; verily, you are upon a straight path.
