Tafseer of Yaseen · Yaseen · 36:23
Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?

And His saying a-attakhidhu min dūnihi ālihatan ("Shall I take besides Him gods?") means: shall I worship gods besides Allah, that is to say an object of worship alongside Him? in yuridni r-Raḥmānu bi-ḍurrin ("If the Most Merciful should intend for me some harm") means: if the Most Merciful should afflict me with harm and adversity, lā tughni ʿannī shafāʿatuhum shayʾan ("their intercession would avail me nothing") means: then it would avail me nothing through their being intercessors for me, nor would they be able to remove that harm from me, wa-lā yunqidhūn ("and they would not save me") means: and they would not deliver me from that harm when it befalls me.
