يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ هَلْ مِنْ خَٰلِقٍ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ

O mankind, remember the favor of Allah upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heaven and earth? There is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

    The explanation of the word of the Exalted: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ هَلْ مِنْ خَالِقٍ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ (3) O mankind, remember the favour of Allah upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? There is no god but He; how then are you turned away? (3)

    He, exalted is His mention, says to the polytheists who ascribed partners to Him, from among the people of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from the Quraysh: (يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ) O mankind, remember the favour of Allah which He has bestowed (عَلَيْكُمْ) upon you through what He has opened for you of His bounties, and what He has spread out for you of provision, and reflect and consider: is there any creator other than the Originator (Fāṭir) of the heavens and the earth, in whose hand are the keys of your provisions and who withholds them, (يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأرْضِ) who provides for you from the heaven and the earth, that you should worship Him instead of Allah? (لا إله إلا هو ) There is no god but He — He says: there is no object of worship to whom worship is due except the One who brought forth the heavens and the earth, the Almighty over all things, in whose hand are the keys of things and their storehouses, and the withholding of them entirely. So worship, O mankind, nothing besides Him, for none besides Him is able to benefit you or harm you. So devote worship sincerely to Him, and ascribe divinity to Him alone. (فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ) how then are you turned away? — He says: to which side, then, are you turned away from your Creator and your Provider, in whose hand are your benefit and your harm?

    As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word (فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ) how then are you turned away?, he said: the man says: such-and-such is indeed turned away (yuʾfaku) from me. And I have already explained the meaning of al-ifk, and the exposition of His word (تُؤْفَكُونَ) you are turned away in what preceded, with the evidences for it, which make repetition unnecessary.

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ هَلْ مِنْ خَالِقٍ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ (3) يقول تعالى ذكره للمشركين به من قوم رسول الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم من قريش: (يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ) التي أنعمها(عَلَيْكُمْ) بفتحه لكم من خيراته ما فتح وبسطه لكم من العيش ما بسط وفكروا فانظروا هل من خالق سوى فاطر السماوات والأرض الذي بيده مفاتيح أرزاقكم ومغالقها(يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأرْضِ) فتعبدوه دونه (لا إله إلا هو ) يقول: لا معبود تنبغي له العبادة إلا الذي فطر السماوات والأرض القادر على كل شيء، الذي بيده مفاتح الأشياء وخزائنها، ومغالق ذلك كله، فلا تعبدوا أيها الناس شيئًا سواه، فإنه لا يقدر على نفعكم وضركم سواه، فله فأخلصوا العبادة وإياه فأفردوا بالألوهة (فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ) يقول: فأي وجه عن خالقكم ورازقكم الذي بيده نفعكم وضركم تصرفون. كما حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة قوله (فَأَنَّى تُؤْفَكُونَ) يقول الرجل: إنه ليوفك عني كذا وكذا. وقد بينت معنى الإفك، وتأويل قوله (تُؤْفَكُونَ) فيما مضى بشواهده المغنية عن تكريره.
