إِنْ أَنتَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ

You, [O Muhammad], are not but a warner.

    And His statement You are nothing but a warner. The Exalted, whose mention is high, says to His Prophet Muḥammad, may Allah's blessing and peace be upon him: you are nothing but a warner, warning those who ascribe partners to Allah (mushrikīn), upon whose hearts Allah has set a seal. And your Lord has only sent you to them to convey His message to them, and He has imposed upon you nothing of the command for which you have no way. As for their right guidance and their acceptance from you of that which you have brought them — that lies in the hand of Allah, not in your hand nor in the hand of any other human being. So do not consume your soul in regret over them, if they do not heed you.

    وقوله (إِنْ أَنْتَ إِلا نَذِيرٌ) يقول تعالى ذكره لنبيه محمد صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم: ما أنت إلا نذير تنذر هؤلاء المشركين بالله الذين طبع الله على قلوبهم، ولم يرسلك ربك إليهم إلا لتبلغهم رسالته، ولم يكلفك من الأمر ما لا سبيل لك إليه، فأما اهتداؤهم وقبولهم منك ما جئتهم به فإن ذلك بيد الله لا بيدك ولا بيد غيرك من الناس؛ فلا تذهب نفسك عليهم حسرات إن هم لم يستجيبوا لك.
