The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنْتُمُ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ (15) (O mankind, you are the ones who are in need of Allah, and Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.)
The Exalted, whose remembrance is sublime, says: O mankind, you are the needy and the poor in relation to your Lord. So worship Him, and hasten toward that which is pleasing to Him, then He will make you independent of your poverty and grant you success in your needs with Him. وَاللَّهُ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ (and Allah is the Self-Sufficient): independent of your worship of Him, of your service, and of all other matters; both of you and of others besides you. الْحَمِيدُ (the Praiseworthy): that is to say: the One praised for His blessings; for every blessing upon you and upon others besides you comes from Him, so to Him belong the praise and the thanks in every state.
