Discussion of the explanation of His, the Exalted, words: وَالَّذِينَ يَسْعَوْنَ فِي آيَاتِنَا مُعَاجِزِينَ أُولَئِكَ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُونَ (34:38) (And those who strive against Our signs, supposing that they can escape [Us] — they will be delivered up to the punishment.)
He, exalted is His mention, says: and those who strive against Our signs, that is to say: against Our proofs (ḥujaj) and the verses of Our Book, while they seek to nullify them and wish to extinguish their light, assisting one another in that, supposing that they will escape Us by their own deeds and render Us powerless — أُولَئِكَ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُونَ (they will be delivered up to the punishment), that is to say: into the punishment of Hell (jahannam) they will be delivered up on the Day of Resurrection.
