(He it is who bestows blessings upon you, and His angels too). He, exalted be His mention, says: your Lord, whom you remember with abundant remembrance and whom you glorify morning and evening, when you do so — He it is who has mercy upon you and bestows His praise upon you, and He causes His angels to pray for you. It has also been said that the meaning of His saying (He bestows blessings upon you, and His angels too) is: He spreads abroad concerning you the goodly remembrance among the servants of Allah. And His saying لِيُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ (that He may bring you forth from the darknesses into the light) says: the angels of Allah pray for you, so that Allah may bring you forth from error to guidance, and from unbelief (kufr) to faith (īmān).
And in accordance with what we have said regarding its interpretation, the exegetes have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying (Remember Allah with abundant remembrance). He said: Allah has not imposed any obligation upon His servants without setting for it a known limit, and then excusing those who must perform it in the case of an excuse — except for remembrance (dhikr): for Allah has set for it no limit at which one stops, and He has not excused anyone who neglects it, except whoever has been deprived of mastery over his reason. (So remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying on your sides), by night and by day, on land and on sea, while travelling and at home, in wealth and in poverty, in sickness and in health, in secret and in public, and in every state. And He said: وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلا (And glorify Him morning and evening). When you do that, then He and His angels bestow blessings upon you. Allah, mighty and exalted is He, said: هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَلائِكَتُهُ (He it is who bestows blessings upon you, and His angels too).
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying (And glorify Him morning and evening): the morning prayer and the ʿaṣr prayer.
And His saying لِيُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ (that He may bring you forth from the darknesses into the light), that is: from the errors to the guidance.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His saying (He it is who bestows blessings upon you, and His angels too, that He may bring you forth from the darknesses into the light), he said: from error to guidance. He said: error is the darknesses, and the light is the guidance.
And His saying وَكَانَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَحِيمًا (And He is merciful to the believers). He, exalted be His mention, says: and He is merciful to those who believe in Him and in His messenger, in the sense that He does not punish them while they are obedient to Him and follow His command.
