The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: O Prophet, say to your wives: If you desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I shall grant you a gift and let you go in a comely manner (28)
The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says to His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ (Say) O Muḥammad (to your wives: If you desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I shall grant you a gift): He says: then I shall grant you the gift which Allah has made obligatory upon the men toward the women at their parting from them through the divorce (ṭalāq), with His words: وَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ عَلَى ٱلْمُوسِعِ قَدَرُهُۥ وَعَلَى ٱلْمُقْتِرِ قَدَرُهُۥ مَتَٰعًۢا بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ (and provide for them, the well-to-do according to his means and the needy according to his means, a provision according to what is fitting, an obligation upon the doers of good). And His words (and let you go in a comely manner): He says: and I shall let you go in the manner which Allah has permitted for that, and with which He has instructed His servants through His words: إِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ (when you divorce the women, then divorce them with regard to their waiting period (ʿiddah)).
