And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their properties and a land which you have not trodden. And ever is Allah, over all things, competent.

( وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ وَدِيَارَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ ) And He caused you to inherit their land, their dwellings, and their possessions — He says: and He gave you, after their destruction, ownership of their land, that is, their fields and their plantations, and their dwellings — He says: and their abodes — and their possessions, that is, all the remaining possessions besides the land and the houses.
And His word: (وأرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئوها) and a land that you had not trodden. The expositors of the Book differed concerning it: which land is that? Some of them said: that is Byzantium (al-Rūm) and Persia (Fāris) and similar lands that Allah afterwards conquered for the Muslims.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: (وَأَرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئُوها) and a land that you had not trodden, he said: al-Ḥasan said: that is Byzantium and Persia, and what Allah conquered for them.
And others said: that is Mecca.
And yet others said: no, that is Khaybar.
* Mention of who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, saying: Yazīd ibn Rūmān related to me: (وَأَرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئوها) and a land that you had not trodden, he said: Khaybar.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word: (وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ وَدِيَارَهُمْ) And He caused you to inherit their land and their dwellings, he said: those are the Qurayẓa and the Naḍīr, the People of the Book. (وَأَرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئوها) and a land that you had not trodden, he said: Khaybar.
And the correct judgment concerning it is that one says: Allah, exalted is His mention, has reported that He caused the believers among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to inherit the land of the Banū Qurayẓa, their dwellings, and their possessions, as well as a land that they had not trodden on that day. On that day it was neither Mecca, nor Khaybar, nor the land of Persia and Byzantium, nor Yemen among what they had already trodden by then — then they trod all of that afterwards, and Allah caused them to inherit it. And all of this falls under His word (وأرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئوها) and a land that you had not trodden, because He, exalted is His mention, did not single out one part of it to the exclusion of another. (وكانَ اللَّهُ على كُلّ شَيْء قَديرًا) And Allah is over all things powerful. He, exalted is His mention, says: and Allah was able to cause the believers to inherit that, and to help them, and in all remaining matters; nothing that He wills is impossible for Him, and the carrying out of no matter that He resolves to do is prevented from Him.
