    The statement concerning the interpretation of His word, the Exalted: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلا تُطِعِ الْكَافِرِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا (33:1) (O Prophet, fear Allah and do not obey the disbelievers (kāfir) and the hypocrites (munāfiq). Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (1))

The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ (O Prophet, fear Allah) by obeying Him, by fulfilling His obligatory ordinances and discharging the rights He has over you, and by abstaining from what He has forbidden and from transgressing His prescribed limits (ḥudūd). وَلا تُطِعِ الْكَافِرِينَ (and do not obey the disbelievers (kāfir)), who say to you: "Drive away from yourself the weak among the believers who follow you, so that we may sit with you." وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ (and not the hypocrites (munāfiq)), who display before you faith in Allah and sincere counsel to you, while they do not cease to bring corruption and harm upon you, your companions, and your religion. So accept from them no opinion, and do not consult them as though you were seeking sincere counsel from them, for indeed they are enemies to you. إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا (Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.) He says: indeed, Allah has knowledge of what their souls conceal and of that which they intend by displaying sincere counsel to you, alongside what they keep hidden against you within themselves; He is wise in disposing of your affair and the affair of your companions and your religion, and of everything else in disposing of His entire creation.
