The statement on the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لا يَنْفَعُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ (57) (So on that Day their excuse will not benefit those who did wrong, nor will they be invited to seek Allah's good pleasure.) (57)

He, exalted is His mention, says: On the Day when they are resurrected from their graves, the excuse of those who did wrong will not benefit them. By that He means: those who in the worldly life denied the resurrection — their excuse, which is their saying: "We did not know that this would come to pass, nor that we would be resurrected." Nor will they be invited to seek Allah's good pleasure (yustaʿtabūn), that is to say: these wrongdoers will not on that Day be brought back to make amends for what they denied in the worldly life.
