The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ رُسُلا إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَاءُوهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا وَكَانَ حَقًّا عَلَيْنَا نَصْرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (30:47) (And indeed We sent before you messengers to their people, and they came to them with the clear proofs. Then We took vengeance upon those who committed crimes, and it was a duty upon Us to help the believers.)
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says—consoling His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for the harm that befalls him from his people, by pointing to what the messengers before him underwent from their people; and informing him of His established way (sunna) toward them and toward their peoples, and that with him and with his people He follows His way toward them and toward their communities: And indeed We sent before you, O Muḥammad, messengers to their disbelieving people, just as We sent you to your people who worship the idols apart from Allah. (فَجَاءُوهُمْ بالبَيِّناتِ)—that is: with the clear proofs of their truthfulness, and that they are messengers of Allah, just as you came to your people with the clear proofs. Then they denied them, just as your people denied you, and they rejected what they had brought them from Allah, just as they rejected what you brought them from your Lord. (فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا)—He says: then We took vengeance upon those who committed sins and perpetrated evil deeds among their people; and likewise will We deal with the criminals of your people. (وَكَانَ حَقًّا عَلَيْنا نَصْرُ المُؤْمِنِينَ)—He says: and We saved those who believed in Allah and held His messengers to be truthful, when Our punishment came upon them; and likewise will We deal with you and with whoever of your people believes in you. (وَكَانَ حَقًّا عَلَيْنا نَصْرُ المُؤْمِنينَ)—over the disbelievers, and We will help you and whoever believes in you against whoever is a disbeliever (kāfir) toward you, and We will grant you victory over them.
