"They are the ones whose recompense": that is to say: these who became unbelievers after their belief, and after they had borne witness that the Messenger is truthful — "their recompense", that is to say: their reward for the work they performed, "is that upon them rests the curse of Allah", that is to say: that there befalls them, on the part of Allah, removal and banishment, "and that of the angels and of mankind", that is to say: the calling down of that which will harm them by way of punishment, "all together", that is to say: of all of them, not merely of a part of those whom He — exalted is His praise — has mentioned among the angels and mankind, but of all of them. And He — exalted is His praise — has only made this the reward for their work, because their work was unbelief (kufr) toward Allah.

And we have already expounded elsewhere the description of "the curse of mankind" upon the unbeliever (kāfir), in a manner that relieves us from repeating it.
