Tafseer of The Family of Imraan · Aal-i-Imraan · 3:66
Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allah knows, while you know not.

The explanation of His word, exalted is His praise: هَا أَنْتُمْ هَؤُلاءِ حَاجَجْتُمْ فِيمَا لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلِمَ تُحَاجُّونَ فِيمَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لا تَعْلَمُونَ (66)
(Here you are—you are those who have disputed about that of which you had knowledge; why then do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allah knows, while you do not know.) (66)
Abū Jaʿfar said: By His word, exalted is His praise, "Here you are—you are those," He means the people who said about Ibrāhīm what they said. "You have disputed," that is: you have quarreled and argued "about that of which you had knowledge," among the matters of your religion that you found in your books and that the messengers of Allah brought to you from Him, and about other matters that were allotted to you and whose correctness was established with you. "Why then do you dispute," that is: why do you argue and quarrel "about that of which you have no knowledge," that is: about that of which you have no knowledge concerning the matter of Ibrāhīm and his religion, and what you did not find in the books of Allah, and what your prophets did not bring to you, and what you did not witness so that you would know it? As in:
7208 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: "Here you are—you are those who have disputed about that of which you had knowledge; why then do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge?" As for "that of which they had knowledge": it is what was forbidden to them and what was commanded of them. And as for "that of which they had no knowledge": it is the matter of Ibrāhīm.
7209 – Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: "Here you are—you are those who have disputed about that of which you had knowledge," that is: about that of which you were witnesses, what you saw and beheld with your own eyes. "Why then do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge," about that of which you were not witnesses, what you did not see and did not behold with your own eyes. "And Allah knows, while you do not know."
7210 – Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: Isḥāq related to us, saying: Ibn Abī Jaʿfar related to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of al-Rabīʿ, the like of it.

And His word: "And Allah knows, while you do not know," that is: Allah knows what was withheld from you, so that you did not witness it and did not see it, and what His messengers did not bring to you concerning the matter of Ibrāhīm and other matters and that about which you argue, for nothing is withheld from Him, and the knowledge of no single thing escapes Him, neither in the heavens nor on the earth. "While you do not know" of it, except what you have beheld and seen with your own eyes, or of which you have acquired knowledge through report and hearing.
