The explanation of His word: فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ نَاصِرِينَ (56) ("As for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers") (3:56)
Abū Jaʿfar said: He — exalted is His praise — means by His word "As for those who disbelieved": as for those who denied your prophethood, O ʿĪsā, and opposed your religious community, and rejected the truth that you brought them, and spoke falsehood about you, and ascribed you to something other than that to which you ought to be ascribed — among the Jews, the Christians, and all the remaining kinds of religious creeds — indeed, I will punish them with a severe punishment. As for in this world: by killing, captivity (sabī), humiliation, and poverty; and as for in the Hereafter: by the fire of hell (jahannam), in which they will abide forever. = "and they will have no helpers." He says: and there will be no one for them who wards off the punishment of Allah, nor anyone who turns away His painful retribution from them by force or intercession, for He is the Almighty, the Lord of retribution.
