Discussion of the explanation of His word: "Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden, neither on the earth nor in the heaven" (3:5)
Abū Jaʿfar said: He, exalted is His praise, means by this: Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden of what is on the earth, nor anything that is in the heaven. He says: How then could it remain hidden from Me, O Muḥammad ﷺ — and I am the Knower of all things — that with which these people who dispute with you concerning the signs of Allah — the Christians of Najrān regarding ʿĪsā the son of Maryam — keep up a false pretense, in the statement that they make about him?! As in:
6566 - Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Zubayr: "Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden, neither on the earth nor in the heaven," that is to say: He has already known what they want, and what scheme they are plotting, and that with which they keep up a false pretense in their statement about ʿĪsā, when they made him a lord and a god, while they possessed of his knowledge something other than that — out of blindness toward Allah and out of disbelief (kufr) toward Him.
