[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

As for His statement: "a meager enjoyment" (matāʿun qalīl), by it He means: that their moving to and fro through the lands and their bustling activity therein is an enjoyment by which they take pleasure for a short time, until they reach their appointed terms of life and the hours of their death seize them away — "then their abode is Hell (jahannam)," after their death.

And "al-maʾwā" (the abode) is the destination toward which they betake themselves on the Day of Resurrection and into which they come to rest.

And by His statement "and what a wretched resting place" He means: and what a wretched bed and what a wretched couch is Hell (jahannam).
