And as for His statement: "That is because of what your hands have sent forth before" — that is to say: our statement to them on the Day of Resurrection, "Taste the punishment of the burning," because of what your hands have sent forth before and earned during the days of your life in this world; and because Allah is just and does no wrong, so that He would not punish a servant of His without that servant having deserved that punishment, but rather He requites every soul according to what it has earned, and gives every doer the full recompense of what he has done. Thus did He requite those to whom He said [that] on the Day of Resurrection — among the Jews whose condition He described, and concerning whom He reported that they said: (Indeed, Allah is poor and we are rich), and who killed the prophets without right — with that wherewith He requited them, namely the punishment of the burning, because of the sins they had earned, the evil deeds they committed, and the lies they invented about Allah after no excuse remained for them once the warning had reached them. Thus was He — exalted be His mention — with that wherewith He punished them, namely that He made them taste the punishment of the burning, no wrongdoer, nor one who lays His punishment upon whoever does not deserve it. Thus is He — magnificent is His praise — unjust to none of His creatures, but rather He is the Just among them, and the Bestower of grace upon all of them with what He wills of His favors and benefactions.
