The explanation of His word: وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ (132) (And obey Allah and the Messenger, that you may receive mercy) (132).
Abū Jaʿfar said: He, exalted is His praise, means by it: and obey Allah, O believers, in what He has forbidden you of consuming usury (ribā) and of the other matters, and in what the Messenger has commanded you. He says: and obey the Messenger likewise as well; "that you may receive mercy," meaning: that you may receive mercy and so not be punished.
It has been said that this is a rebuke from Allah, mighty and exalted, to the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who did not follow his command on the day of Uḥud, when they abandoned their posts which they had been commanded to hold.
Mention of who said that:
7829 — Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq: "And obey Allah and the Messenger, that you may receive mercy," a rebuke to those who disobeyed His Messenger when he commanded them to do what he commanded them on that day and on other days — he means: on the day of Uḥud.
