And His statement: وَهُوَ اللَّهُ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ ("And He is Allāh; there is no god but He") — the Exalted, whose mention is sublime, says: and your Lord, O Muḥammad, is the Worshipped One, to whom alone worship is due, and there is no object of worship whose worship is permissible besides Him. لَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِي الأولَى ("To Him belongs all praise in the first") — that is to say: in the worldly life (al-dunyā). وَالآخِرَةِ وَلَهُ الْحُكْمُ ("and in the Hereafter, and to Him belongs the judgment") means: and to Him belongs the adjudication among His creatures. وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ("and to Him you will be returned") means: and to Him you will be returned after your death, whereupon He will judge between you in truth.
