But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."

The word of Allah, the Exalted: فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ مُوسَى بِآيَاتِنَا بَيِّنَاتٍ قَالُوا مَا هَذَا إِلا سِحْرٌ مُفْتَرًى وَمَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الأَوَّلِينَ (36)
Allah, the Exalted, says: When Mūsā came to Pharaoh and his courtiers with Our proofs and clear evidences — marks that bear witness to the truth of what Mūsā had brought from his Lord — they said to Mūsā: "What you have brought us is nothing but sorcery that you have invented of yourself and fabricated as a lie and a falsehood." وَمَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا — "and what you offer us as an invitation, the worship of the one to whose worship you call us, that we have never heard of among our forefathers and earlier fathers who passed away before us."
