(And Who, I hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment) — my Lord, in Whose hand He holds my benefit and my harm, to Whom belong might and authority, to Whom belong this world and the Hereafter — He it is, not the one who does not hear when he is called upon, and who neither benefits nor harms. And these words of Ibrāhīm were an argument against his people: that godhood — and worship — are due to none but Him Who performs these deeds, not to the one who is incapable of any benefit or harm whatsoever.

It has been said that Ibrāhīm — may the prayers of Allah be upon him — by his words وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ meant: from Whom I hope that He will forgive me my sin for my statement: إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ (I am sick), and his statement: (Rather, this, their biggest one, did it), and his saying to Sāra that she was his sister.

    Mention of who said this:

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the word of Allah: أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ — he said: his statement: إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ , and his statement: فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَذَا , and his saying to Sāra that she was his sister, when one of the pharaohs wanted to take her.

Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his words: وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ — he said: his statement إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ , and his statement: بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَذَا , and his saying to Sāra that she was his sister.

He said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Abū Tumaylah related to us, on the authority of Abū Ḥamzah, on the authority of Jābir, on the authority of ʿIkrimah and Mujāhid — with corresponding content.

By his words يَوْمِ الدِّينِ he means the Day of Judgment, the Day of Recompense. We have already expounded that, with its proofs, previously.
