Tafseer of The Poets · Ash-Shu'araa · 26:7
Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says: Did the polytheists (mushrikīn) who deny the Hereafter and the Resurrection not look at the earth — how much We caused to grow therein after it was dead and there was no vegetation in it — مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ (of every noble pair)? By "noble" (karīm) He means: beautiful — just as one says of a date palm with good fruit: a noble (karīma) date palm, and just as one says of a ewe or a she-camel that give milk abundantly: a noble she-camel (nāqa karīma) and a noble ewe (shāt karīma).
In accordance with what we have said concerning the interpretation of this, the people of tafsīr also spoke.
* Mention of those who said this:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us. And al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the word of Allah: أَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ (We caused to grow therein of every noble pair) — he said: Of the vegetation of the earth, that from which people and livestock eat.
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — in accordance with the above.
Al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning the word: مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ — he said: Beautiful.
