And His statement: كَلا إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ (Nay indeed! My Lord is with me; He will guide me) — Mūsā said to his people: "The matter is not as you have said. Nay, you will not be overtaken. My Lord is with me; He will guide me" — that is to say: He will show me the way by which I shall escape from Pharaoh and his people.

Thus Ibn Ḥumayd related to me, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Quraẓī, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād ibn al-Hād, who said: It was related to me that Pharaoh set out in pursuit of Mūsā with seventy thousand black horses, besides the other coloured horses that were in his army. Mūsā advanced until the sea was before him and there was no way back, while Pharaoh with his army appeared from behind. (And when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Mūsā said: "We shall surely be overtaken." He said: "Nay indeed! My Lord is with me; He will guide me") — that is to say: to deliverance, for He has promised me that, and there is no contradiction in His promise.

Mūsā related to us, saying: ʿAmr related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: قَالَ كَلا إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ — he said: He will suffice me, and he said: عَسَى رَبُّكُمْ أَنْ يُهْلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ (It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land, and then see how you act).
