And indeed, they are enraging us,

Concerning the word of Allah: وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ (And indeed, they have enraged us) — that is to say: this small band has provoked our wrath. It is mentioned that their enraging of Pharaoh's people consisted in the fact that the angels had killed the firstborn of their people and of their animals.
* Mention of those who said this:
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning the word وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ: he said: "Because of the killing of our firstborn, both among the people and among the cattle." It is also possible that its meaning is: "They enraged us in that they departed with our possessions, namely the ornaments that they had borrowed from us"; and it is also possible that it is because of their departure away from them and their going out from their land despite the aversion of Pharaoh's people to that.
