So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."

فَأَلْقَوْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ (So they threw down their ropes and their staffs) from their hands, وَقَالُوا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ (and they said: By the might of Pharaoh) — that is to say: they swore by the power of Pharaoh, the severity of his authority, and the impregnability of his kingship — إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْغَالِبُونَ (verily we shall be the victors) over Moses.
