Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals.

His statement: كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ — he said: "disbelief" فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ .
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His statement كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ حَتَّى يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الأَلِيمَ — [his explanation dropped out].
ʿAlī ibn Sahl related to me, saying: Zayd ibn Abī al-Zarqāʾ related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Ḥumayd, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning this verse: كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ — he said: "We created it."
He said: Zayd related to us, on the authority of Ḥammād ibn Salama, on the authority of Ḥumayd, who said: "I asked al-Ḥasan in the house of Abū Khalīfa about His statement كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ — he said: 'The shirk (ascribing partners to Allah) He implanted in their hearts.'"
