And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.

He, Whose praise is exalted, says: "And indeed this is the Qurʾān, mentioned in the scriptures of the former peoples" — that is to say: in the books of the earlier nations. The expression has the form of generality, but its meaning is that of particularity; the real sense is: "And indeed this is the Qurʾān, mentioned in some of the scriptures of the former peoples" — that is to say: that its mention and its tidings occur in some of the Books which Allah sent down upon some of His messengers.
