(And do you forsake what your Lord has created for you of your spouses?) — that is to say: and do you leave behind that which your Lord has created for you of your spouses — namely their private parts — for that He has made lawful for you. It has been mentioned that in the reading of ʿAbd Allāh this reads: "and do you forsake what your Lord has approved for you of your spouses."

With what we have said concerning this, the people of tafsīr are likewise of the same opinion.

Mention of those who said this:

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me; he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us; he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me; he said: al-Ḥasan related to us; he said: Warqāʾ related to us — all on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the word: وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ — he said: "You have forsaken the front openings of the women in favor of the rear openings of the men and the rear openings of the women."

Al-Qāsim related to us; he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us; he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — in accordance with the above.

And His word: بَلْ أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ (Nay, you are a people of transgressors) — that is to say: nay, you are a people who transgress the limits of that which your Lord has made lawful and permitted to you of private parts, in favor of that which He has forbidden you thereof.

As al-Qāsim related to us; he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us; he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning: بَلْ أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ — he said: "A people of transgressors."
