The Exalted — praised be His mention — says: indeed, in what We did, O Muḥammad, with Noah and those who were with him among the believers in the laden ship — when We caused Our might and Our grip to descend upon his people who had denied him — there is a sign for you and for your people, both those who affirm you and those who deny you: that it is Our custom (sunna) to save Our messengers and their followers, when Our punishment descends upon the deniers of Our messengers among their people, and to destroy the deniers of Allah. Such is my custom (sunna) also with you and your people. ( "And most of them were not believers" ) — He says: and most of your people are not among those who affirm you, in accordance with what had already been established in the decree of Allah that they would not believe.
