He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?

( "He said: And what knowledge have I of what they used to do?" ) — Noah said to his people: what knowledge have I of what my followers do? Of them I see only the outward aspect of their affair, not its inner reality. I am not charged with knowledge of their inner state; I am charged only with the outward. Whoever outwardly displays good, I think well of him, and whoever outwardly displays evil, I think ill of him. He says: the accounting for the inner reality of their affair, which remains hidden from me, rests only with my Lord — if only you knew — for He knows both the hidden and the manifest of their affairs.
In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the mufassirūn also said.
