And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

And truly your Lord, O Muḥammad, is the One Who exacts severe retribution against whoever worshipped something besides Him and then did not repent of his unbelief until he died — and Who is merciful (raḥīm) toward whoever among them repents, in the sense that He does not punish him for the sin and the crime he committed before his repentance.
