Tafseer of The Criterion · Al-Furqaan · 25:27

وَيَوْمَ يَعَضُّ ٱلظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى ٱتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ ٱلرَّسُولِ سَبِيلًۭا

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, "Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.

    Allah, exalted is His mention, says: On the day when the wrongdoing polytheist bites his hands out of remorse and grief over what he neglected concerning the Right of Allah, and over having ruined his soul through disbelief in Him — in obedience to his friend who had turned him away from the path of his Lord — he says: "Would that I had taken a way together with the Messenger in the worldly life" — that is to say: a way to deliverance from the punishment of Allah.

    يقول تعالى ذكره: ويوم يعضّ الظالم نفسه المشرك بربه على يديه ندما وأسفًا على ما فرط في جنب الله، وأوبق نفسه بالكفر به في طاعة خليله الذي صدّه عن سبيل ربه, يقول: يا ليتني اتخذت في الدنيا مع الرسول سبيلا يعني طريقا إلى النجاة من عذاب الله .
