So they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help. And whoever commits injustice among you - We will make him taste a great punishment.

Allah, exalted is His mention, says to the believers: وَمَنْ يَظْلِمْ مِنْكُمْ — O believers — by "whoever commits wrong" He means: whoever sets up a partner alongside Allah and thereby wrongs himself, him We shall make taste a great torment, just as We have mentioned that We shall make those taste it who deny the Day of Judgment.

Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to me, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, saying: Ibn Jurayj said concerning His word وَمَنْ يَظْلِمْ مِنْكُمْ — he said: whoever commits the ascribing of partners (shirk) — نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيرًا .
Al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His word وَمَنْ يَظْلِمْ مِنْكُمْ — he said: it concerns shirk.
