Tabari (1 passage)

  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says: when the right is in favor of those who are called to Allah and His Messenger so that he may judge in their mutual dispute, but they refuse and turn away from answering that call, while the claim lies with those who call them to Allah and His Messenger — then they come willingly to the Messenger of Allah. That is to say: they come compliantly, submissive to his judgment, acknowledging it and obeying voluntarily without compulsion. One says of this: "so-and-so (fulān) acknowledged his right" when he acknowledged it voluntarily, bowed to it, and submitted to it.

And concerning what is related from Mujāhid in this regard: al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujāhid, concerning the word of Allah: يَأْتُوا إِلَيْهِ مُذْعِنِينَ — he said: hastening.
