And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?

Allah — exalted is His mention — says: And Allah is the One Who gives life to His creation, that is to say: He brings them to life after they were dead drops of seed, by breathing the spirit into them after the successive stages that pass over it. وَيُمِيتُ (and causes death), that is to say: He causes them to die after He had given them life. وَلَهُ اخْتِلافُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ (and to Him belongs the alternation of the night and the day), that is to say: He is the One Who has distinguished the night and the day from one another, just as it is said in ordinary speech: "To you belongs favor and grace," with the meaning: "you bestow favor and grace." And His word: أَفَلا تَعْقِلُونَ (do you then not understand?), that is to say: do you then not understand, O people, that the One Who has performed these deeds out of nothing, without any original principle, cannot be prevented from giving life to the dead after their decay, nor from creating anew what He has willed to destroy after its creation?
