Tafseer of The Believers · Al-Muminoon · 23:65
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
Concerning His words: لا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ (Do not cry out this day): that is to say, do not wail and call for help on the day that the punishment has descended upon you — the punishment that is not turned away from those who wrong themselves — for your wailing will not avail you and will avert nothing of what has befallen you from the wrath of Allah.
إِنَّكُمْ مِنَّا لا تُنْصَرُونَ (Verily, from Us you will receive no help): that is to say, you will not be saved from the punishment that has descended upon you, and nothing will deliver you from it.
In the spirit of what we have said in the explanation of this, the exegetes likewise spoke.
Mention of those who said this:
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Abū Jaʿfar, on the authority of al-Rabīʿ ibn Anas: لا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ — "Do not despair this day."
Yūnus related to me, saying: al-Rabīʿ ibn Anas informed us: لا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ — "Do not despair now, now that the punishment has descended upon you; that will not help you. For had this despair come earlier, it would have helped you."
