وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًۭا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًۭا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ

And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

    Allah, the Exalted, says, relating the words of the notables among the people of Ṣāliḥ to their people: وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ (And if you obey a human being like yourselves) — and follow him and accept what he says and acknowledge him as truthful — إِنَّكُمْ O people — إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ (then you will surely be among the losers) — they said: then you, in that case, are those who are deprived of your shares of eminence and elevation in the world, by following him.

    يقول تعالى ذكره ، مخبرا عن قيل الملأ من قوم صالح لقومهم: ( وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ ) فاتبعتموه ، وقبلتم ما يقول وصدّقتموه. ( إِنَّكُمْ ) أيها القوم ( إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ ) يقول: قالوا: إنكم إذن لمغبونون حظوظكم من الشرف والرفعة في الدنيا، باتباعكم إياه.
