أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

[It will be said]. "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"

    He — exalted be His praise — says: it is said to them أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ — He means: the verses of the Qurʾān were recited to you in the world. فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ — The mention of "it is said" has been omitted because the context indicates it. قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا .

    يقول تعالى ذكره: يقال لهم ( أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ ) يعني آيات القرآن تتلى عليكم في الدنيا( فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ) وترك ذكر يقال؛ لدلالة الكلام عليه ( قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا ) .
