Allah, exalted is His mention, says: And there are among people those who dispute concerning the oneness of Allah and His uniqueness in divinity, without any knowledge of that about which they dispute. وَلا هُدًى ("and without guidance") — He says: and without any clear proof for what he says and without argument.

وَلا كِتَابٍ مُنِيرٍ ("and without an illuminating Book") — He says: and without a Book from Allah that has come to him in confirmation of what he says. (مُنِيرٌ — "illuminating") — He says: that casts light upon his argument. What he says, he says only out of ignorance, based on conjecture and assumption. It has been mentioned that by this verse and the verse that follows it, al-Naḍr ibn al-Ḥārith of the Banū ʿAbd al-Dār is intended.
