As for His words وَهُدُوا إِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ (and they were guided to the good word): Allah the Exalted says: their Lord guided them, in the worldly life, to the testimony that there is no god but Allah.

As Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His words وَهُدُوا إِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ : he said: they were guided to the good word: "There is no god but Allah," and "Allah is the Greatest," and "All praise is due to Allah"; and Allah said: إِلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ وَالْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُهُ (to Him ascends the good word, and the righteous deed raises it).

ʿAlī related to us, saying: ʿAbdullāh related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning وَهُدُوا إِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ : he said: they were inspired to it.

As for His words وَهُدُوا إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْحَمِيدِ (and they were guided to the path of the Praised): Allah the Exalted says: their Lord guided them, in the worldly life, to the path of the Lord, the Praised (al-Ḥamīd). His path is: His religion, Islām, which He has prescribed for His creatures and enjoined upon them so that they would tread it. Al-Ḥamīd is a faʿīl form derived from the passive plural, and the meaning is that He is praised by His friends among His creatures; it has thus been transposed from maḥmūd to ḥamīd.
