And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers.

And His word وَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا — Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says: They plotted a scheme against Ibrāhīm. فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الأَخْسَرِينَ — that is to say: the losers.
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning وَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الأَخْسَرِينَ: he said: They threw an old man of theirs into the fire in order to bring about his rescue, just as Ibrāhīm ﷺ was rescued — but he was burned.
