And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing

Allah, exalted is His praise, says: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ — before Mūsā and Hārūn — and We granted him guidance toward the truth, and We delivered him from the midst of his people and his household members from the worship of idols (ʿibādat al-awthān), just as We did with Muḥammad ﷺ and with Ibrāhīm: We delivered him from his people and his tribe from the worship of idols, and guided him to the path of right discernment as a favor from Us toward him.
And in the same manner as we have explained this, the people of interpretation spoke.

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, he said: ʿĪsā related to us — "ḥ" — and al-Ḥārith related to me, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His word: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ : he said: We guided him when he was still small.
Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ : he said: He guided him when he was still small.
Ibn Bashshār related to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, he said: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ : he said: He guided him when he was still small.
Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ : he said: We gave him His guidance.
His word وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَالِمِينَ means: and We were knowing of him — that he was one of certainty (yaqīn) and faith (īmān) in Allah and His oneness, who associates nothing with Him (shirk).
