Mention of who said that:
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of ʿAṭāʾ al-Khurāsānī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning وَإِنْ أَدْرِي لَعَلَّهُ فِتْنَةٌ لَكُمْ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ (and I do not know — perhaps it is a trial for you and an enjoyment for a time): he says: perhaps what I have brought nearer to you of the punishment and the Hour — that this is deferred from you until the appointed term for you — and an enjoyment for a time; so that my word becomes a trial (fitna) for your very selves.
