And His statement إِنَّمَا إِلَهُكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ: that is to say: "There is for you, O people, no object of worship except the One to Whom belongs the worship of all creation — worship befits Him alone, and it is not due to others and does not befit any other than Him." وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا: that is to say: "He has encompassed all things with knowledge and knows them — nothing of it is hidden from Him, and the knowledge of all that costs Him no effort." One says: "So-and-so is capable of this matter (yasaʿu li-hādhā l-amr)" when he can manage it and is able for it; and "he is not capable of it (lā yasaʿu lahu)" when he cannot manage it and it is beyond him.
And Qatāda said concerning this — as we were told by Bishr, who said: Yazīd related to us, who said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا: "He has filled all things with knowledge — blessed and exalted is He."
